Tim Thompson BA Hons (MSc)

Senior UX / UI Designer & Developer

I am a user experience designer with a cross-disciplinary background in web and app development. I create digital experiences that help users flow through software, and aim to bring a touch of delight along the way.

When not flying Lego spaceships I work for the NHS.

I am open to new opportunities, if you think I might be a good fit for your team, please get in touch. See below a little about my history and a selection of case studies of recent work.

A brief history of mine

My life experience may help shape the next step I take. This is a glimpse into that journey.

2000

I started out as a web developer for the Psychology department at the University of Wales Bangor.

I found my passion creating eleagant user experiences for the student intranet and public website, and I conducted research to better understand student needs.

During this period I gained an MSc in Computing specialising in areas of e-commerce, usability and accessibility.

On graduation I worked as web development officer for two years at Lloyds Register Quality Assurance supporting their successful UK operations.

2005

I travelled to Mexico City and volunteered my skills in web development for a publishing charity. Over two years, I helped improve the UX of its online presence, including its bookshop, subscriptions and events sign-up.

I stayed another three years, in this time working for a software company designing and coding user flows and screens for a ticket sales and access control platform.

During this period, I learned to speak fluent Spanish, which I continue to this day.

2010

I returned to the UK and ran a business building websites and apps for a number of UK businesses and organisations, including some in Mexico with whom I had connections.

In partnership with a media company, we formed The Pixel Bunch; creating apps and multimedia solutions for national charities and hertiage projects including The National Trust.

2018 - Today

I have been working for the NHS in England on a range of patient-facing web applications. These include the nationwide ChatHealth service, and Guidance, a digital platform for mental health workshops.

I also provide support to developers and advise content authors on strategy and best practice.

UX Design Institiute Certification

In 2023 I completed a Professional Diploma in UX Design. Even though I have a lot of industry experience, the course helped me to improve my design process with better research and analysis methods, and update myself with the latest UX approaches.

Case studies

Through my career I have worked across the full development lifecycle, from UX and UI design, to development and project management. UX is the heart of everything I do. This is a selection of recent work.
