Tim Thompson's Portfolio NOTDEC website

Launched mid-2016

Notdec (UK) is the UK wing of a charity based in Uganda that works with orphaned children. I was asked to re-develop the website from the ground up, including design, implementation and user training for the CMS.

The website for NOTDEC (UK) represents a typical CMS-driven SME business/organisation site of which I have developed a number as a Full Stack designer/developer over the years.

Structure & design

A site tree diagram (see download link) and a wireframe diagram (see second slide) are given here as simple examples of typical preparatory work carried out prior to visual design & development.

In terms of the design, of note was my desire to capture something of the vibrant colours typical of Ugandan imagery, and by introducing a touch of CSS3 rotation I gave the site a quirky feel. The mountains as shown in the header are those which dominate the landscape surrounding the Development Centre in Uganda. I was responsible for the iconography and location maps, deliberately blended into the background.

CMS

This site is a good example of my use of the Drupal content management system (CMS), a highly versatile and extensible system for allowing a lot of functionality and variety in layout with relatively little effort.

I instantiated and configured the CMS, and then converted the front-end code I had written as a theme. Once the site was developed, I gave the client full instructions, including a personal training session, on how to administer the CMS.

Case studies

Through my career I have worked across the full development lifecycle, from UX and UI design, to development and project management. UX is the heart of everything I do. This is a selection of recent work.
